Farming in Primary 5 - Part 2
As part of our work on arable farming, we looked at cereal advertisements from the 1980s which were great fun and then children worked in pairs and comparing strategies used by the cereal companies to persuade customers to buy them. We also examined cereal boxes and compared the nutritional value of different cereals eaten and children were encouraged to give reasons why some may be considered better than others.
Children also enjoyed the challenge by Mrs Kelly, to create a scarecrow to protect their sunflower seeds and with lots of help by Mrs Orr and a few donations of clothing, Billy Bob was unveiled at St Mary's PS. We haven't seen a bird in sight since. Pupils made some wonderful scarecrows at home and brought them in to showcase their artwork to our class. Great effort made! We then wrote some lovely descriptions of scarecrows who got into a bit of bother on the farm but things turned out well in the end.
A very busy term, but enjoyable one! Well done!
