World Down Syndrome Day 2024
To celebrate World Down Syndrome Day 2024, all pupils and staff wore ODD SOCKS to school on Thursday 21st March. This symbolises our uniqueness, and emphasises the part we can each play in contributing to an equal and fair world.
The theme for World Down Syndrome Day 2024 is, 'End the Stereotypes'.
Quote from World Down Syndrome website:
'For children and people with Down Syndrome and intellectual disabilities, stereotypes can stop us from being treated like others. Sometimes we get treated like little children, we are underestimated. End the Stereotypes.'
The truth.
People are all different. Each person with Down syndrome is different. Each person with an intellectual disability is different.
We don’t all act the same way or like the same things.
We each have our individual identity, interests, likes and dislikes, gifts and talents, just like everyone else.
Having Down syndrome or an intellectual disability is just one part of who we are!
We are people. Treat us like people.
